Young: We must pick ourselves up now for top-flight action

By Paul Brown

Luke Young says it's vital that Villa pick themselves up and dust themselves down as they get set for a return to Barclays Premier League action next week.

Young admitted being "raw and hurt" after the Blues defeat but insisted Gerard Houllier's men must focus on the important run of top-flight games coming up.

Villa face Liverpool [a], West Brom [h], Wigan [a] Tottenham [h] and Manchester City [a] to end 2010 and Young insists these matches are paramount now.

He said: "We now need to pick ourselves back up.

"There's too many important games coming up.

"Our league position suggests we need to start winning a few games to get ourselves out of a little bit of trouble that we might find ourselves in.

"It can turn around so quickly. There's no point being too downbeat.

"It's hard to take because it was such an opportunity for us but it's gone now.

"There's nothing we can do about it.

"I don't think there was much in the game. It was just that little bit of luck at the end where it's sort of come off me with Brad already going down.

"On another night we could have gone through. I don't think we played bad at all.

"I thought we were the better team in the second half. It felt like we were camped in their half for quite a long period of time.

"They had their chances in the first half. We rode our luck a bit when Cameron Jerome missed but after that, I felt we were the better side and perhaps could go on to win the game but here we are and we are out.

"We are hurting. If we had managed to get through, we're in the semi-finals and then it's the luck of the draw and you could be at Wembley again.

"Unfortunately that's not going to be for us."
