Kevin MacDonald has confirmed he wishes to be considered for the job of Aston Villa manager.

He will be interviewed along with other candidates.

Kevin stepped into the breach on the day that former manager Martin O'Neill resigned earlier this month, to take up the reins in a caretaker capacity.

Under his stewardship the claret and blues have recorded two wins from their first three Barclays Premier League games and currently occupy fourth spot.

The club will begin the interview process with a view to making an appointment in the near future.

Chief Executive Paul Faulkner said: "We have thoroughly researched potential candidates and have reached out to a variety of contacts we have within the game for advice and guidance, as well as keeping key staff at Villa Park informed and focused.

"We will now start the process of interviewing candidates we believe meet the key criteria required to manage Aston Villa with a view to making an appointment in the near future.

"Kevin MacDonald will continue as caretaker manager until that time."
