Warnock: I want England future
![]()
Stephen Warnock wants to be part of Fabio Capello's bright new future with England - as he tipped several claret and blue stars to get the call-up this weekend. Warnock was part of the Three Lions squad which went out of the World Cup to Germany in the second round stage. And the Villa left-back said it was impossible to "hide away" from the frustration of the quick exit in South Africa. But he insisted he gained a lot from the experience and wants to be involved as Capello tries to put pride back in the country as they get set for the European Championship qualifiers. England face Hungary in a friendly on Wednesday at Wembley and Warnock wants to be selected, alongside a host of team-mates like Gabby Agbonlahor, Ashley Young and Stewart Downing. He said: "It definitely benefitted me. Playing with the best in the country at the time and being involved in that as a confidence-booster alone is massive. "To bring that back and to know you've been selected is brilliant and can only benefit me in the coming season. "There's a squad coming up and I want to be involved in it as much as anyone else. I'm sure that everyone from the World Cup squad wants to be involved in it. "I'm sure they want to stay in Mr Capello's plans and be part of the next tournament and I'm no different to anyone else. "It hurt everyone. We didn't want to go out of the tournament how we did and we never thought we would go out of the tournament how we did. It was disappointing. "There is no hiding away from the fact that the tournament didn't go well for the team. It's disappointing but hopefully we can put that right in the European Championships. "We have an abundance of English players [at Villa] who are more than capable of getting into the squad. "I'm sure they'll be fighting to get in it and I'm sure there will be a fair few in the squad." Keywords
