Chasetown 0-0 VILLA

A young Villa XI played out a goalless draw against Chasetown in a pre-season clash at the Scholars Ground.

Just over 600 fans witnessed an intriguing contest, which was more entertaining than the scoreline suggested.

Kevin MacDonald's team looked solid at the back, with reserve regulars Ciaran Clark, Shane Lowry and Eric Lichaj starting alongside FA Youth Cup star Ellis Deeney.

Samir Carruthers was deployed in attack alongside Harry Forrester for the first 45 minutes, before dropping back into midfield after the break.

Villa started well and would have gone in at half-time with a 1-0 lead but Connor Taylor's effort was disallowed for offside.

There were five substitutes for the visitors at the break, including Irish youngster Michael Drennan, who was also denied a goal by the linesman's flag.

More changes followed for both sides, although Jonathan Hogg - fresh from his involvement in the first team's Dublin training camp - completed the full 90 minutes.

Overall, it was a good exercise for the young Villa outfit, who will take on Boldmere St Michaels next Tuesday [ko 7.15pm].

VILLA: Parish, Lichaj, Clark, Lowry, Deeney, Carruthers, Taylor, Hogg, Bannan, Cameron, Forrester. Substitutes: Berry, Siegrist, Halfhuid, Johnson, Williams, Darkin, Devine, Nelson-Addy, Drennan.
