Heskey: Capello still the right man for England

By Paul Brown

Emile Heskey believes England's future is in good hands with Fabio Capello - despite the early exit from the World Cup.

Heskey insists Capello can take the Three Lions forward and thinks it would be pointless to start "all over again."

Villa's powerful forward is also hopeful of a bright future for England as players from the under-21 and under-17 set-up come of age.

But he hinted he wants to be considered in the future because of the need for experience.

He said: "Things didn't go to plan but I believe he has built something and we don't want to start all over again, that would be pointless.

"I believe he can take us to the next level despite what has happened in South Africa.

"There are not many words that can describe how down everyone was - we were all so disappointed.

"But I hope the manager will stay because for him to go now would be to waste the two and a half years under him.

"I think there are good young players coming through. The under-21s got to the European Championship final in Sweden last summer and the under-17s have just won their European Championships.

"There must be a good crop of kids out there otherwise how would we have been so successful at those age levels? James Milner has been promoted to the senior squad and done well.

"So I think the future is in good hands but I must admit when you don't see too many young English players in the Premier League you do become worried."

On his own future, Heskey added: "We will have to wait and see.

"No doubt there will be young players breaking through but you still need the experienced players around.

"The disappointments have to drive you on. You have got to look at things and eventually the manager will sit down like we all will and analyse where we have gone wrong. We will look at the good and the bad because you have to do that."
