Dunne: Classy Combination

Richard Dunne

By Dan Harrison

Richard Dunne reckons there is more to come from Villa's new-look defensive unit - after their solid start in the Second City derby.

Martin O'Neill's decision to field three new debutants - Dunne, James Collins and Stephen Warnock - in his back four proved to be a masterstroke as they dominated the Blues attack.

Dunne revealed he had no doubt the trio would click straight away because of their quality.

But he feels they can become an even more formidable force, given more time to work together.

He told AVTV: "James is a very good player so it helps and Stephen Warnock as well who is another very good player.

"Throughout the game myself, Carlos and James seemed to get a lot of headers in our box and every second ball the midfield won.

"It's the first game but it seems to have worked reasonably well. The more we can get training on it, the more the partnerships will build up."
