Mirror: Aston Villa have inquired about David Bentley's future at Spurs. Bentley is set to be sold by Spurs following an ill-fated £15m move from Blackburn. A swap involving Villa's Gareth Barry is a possibility.

Telegraph: Randy Lerner, the Aston Villa chairman, has said that despite the club's success this season - they finished in sixth place and qualified for Europe for the second consecutive season - he will not be investing large amounts of money in the coming transfer window in the hope of reaping greater rewards next season.

Independent: Randy Lerner, the Aston Villa owner, has insisted that financial backing alone cannot guarantee success. Lerner was responding after being asked whether Villa would have to spend more money to compete with the likes of Manchester City and Tottenham next season in the battle for a European place.

Birmingham Post: Aston Villa's reliable right-back Luke Young believes that a well-earned rest this summer will be enough to ensure that he returns fully-fit for the club's pre-season training. The 29-year-old England international, a picture of consistency throughout 43 appearances in his first season at Villa Park, missed the final two fixtures, against Middlesbrough and Newcastle United, with a foot problem.

Sky Sports: Aston Villa full-back Luke Young is hopeful of being 100 per cent fit for the start of the 2009/10 Premier League campaign. The former Middlesbrough defender managed 34 league appearances for Villa this term despite battling against a foot problem.

Setanta Sports: Aston Villa chairman Randy Lerner has revealed Martin O'Neill is likely to be given a reduced budget this summer. O'Neill was given around £50 million to spend last season and brought in the likes of James Milner, Carlos Cuellar, Luke Young and Steve Sidwell to help boost the club's quest for silverware. However, while the manager is keen to add numbers for the forthcoming campaign, Lerner has suggested his resources may be more limited this time around.

Sky Sports: Aston Villa are reportedly keeping tabs on Zenit St Petersburg's Nicolas Lombaerts and Mbark Boussoufa of Anderlecht.

Setanta Sports: Luke Young thinks he will be 'as good as new' when he returns from a foot injury in time for Aston Villa's pre-season.
