Curtis Davies has vowed to "come flying out of the blocks" next season after an impressive finish to 2008-09.

The defender had a superb start to the season with an England call and an impressive run in the Barclays Premier League with Villa.

But when Villa hit a grey patch Davies admitted his form dipped slightly.

However, he was relieved to have finished with a solid performance against Newcastle and is aiming to replicate that form when his team kick off the next campaign.

He told AVTV: "Personally I've started the season flying after coming back from my injury and then eventually getting in the England squad.

"We were seven points clear of Arsenal and things were looking rosy.

"Obviously in that run that run where we went without a win things started to go a little bit sour.

"But luckily towards the end I've managed to regain my form and hopefully I'll carry that on into next season and come out of the blocks flying again."
