John Carew has revealed he will have no sympathy for Newcastle this afternoon - as Villa look to end the season on a high.

Carew admits he's surprised the Toon Army are in such a precarious position and insists Villa owe it to the other clubs in the relegation battle to give their all.

He told AVTV: "It will be a very emotional day for them. It was the same at Middlesbrough.

"But I won't give it any thought. I would probably feel a bit sorry for them if I scored and then realised what it meant for them. So I'll just concentrate on the game.

"It's a football match and we have to focus on ourselves and our jobs. We have to win - that's it.

"It wouldn't be fair to all the other teams near the bottom if we were holding back.

"We know it's going to be tough because they'll be giving it everything to try and stay up. But, equally, we'll be doing everything we can to try and win.

"Nobody here has anything against Newcastle but we'll be concentrating as we do in every match we play in. That's important for the good of the game. You have to respect the game.

"When you're an outsider looking in, you regard Newcastle as one of the big clubs. They're obviously not the biggest but you see them as a top six club. When you go to St James Park, you really notice the atmosphere and you feel it's a big club. But you have to show that on the pitch with your results and the way you play."
