Martin O'Neill has dismissed reports linking Villa with a summer move for former star Olof Mellberg.

The 31-year-old Swedish international defender left Villa Park for Juventus after seven years on a free transfer at the end of last season.

But reports in an evening newspaper claimed MON had lined up an audacious swoop to bring Mellberg back to the club this summer.

But O'Neill said: "It's news to me. There's nothing in it."
