Setanta Sports: Fresh from winning Aston Villa's Players' and Supporters' Player of the Year awards, Stiliyan Petrov admits that such recognition is all the more welcome after he struggled to adapt to life in The Premier League during his first two seasons. Petrov followed his former Celtic manager Martin O'Neill south of the border in the summer of 2006 and initially failed to live up to the standards he had set for himself in The SPL. However, he has this year shone in the middle of the park alongside Gareth Barry and has been duly acknowledge by both his team-mates and the club's fans. Mirror: Stiliyan Petrov has revealed his relief at finally winning over the Aston Villa boo-boys. The Bulgarian midfielder, 29, was branded a £6.5million flop after two average seasons, following his switch from Celtic in August 2006. He even lost his place last term and was jeered by some fans. But Petrov is close to finalising a new contract after impressing this season in a deeper holding midfield role. And the ace was thrilled this week at being named both supporters' player of the year and players' player of the year.
Guardian: The Aston Villa manager, Martin O'Neill, has been warned by the Football Association about his future conduct following comments he made at Old Trafford last month. Sky Sports: Aston Villa full-back Luke Young has revealed how he has been playing through the pain barrier. The defender has been struggling with the foot injury that forced him to withdraw from the England squad in February. Young, though, appears determined to feature in Villa's final two games of the season as the club look to secure fifth position. |
