Birmingham Post: Stiliyan Petrov insists there is a two-fold target facing both him and Aston Villa next season. On a personal level, the Bulgaria international aims to retain that two major awards he picked up at Villa's end of season dinner on Tuesday. And on a general level the £6.5 million midfielder, who turns 30 this summer as he heads into the final year of his contract, says that despite Villa's fall from grace from February the target next season will be for Villa to again push the top four all the way. Petrov's efforts have been recognised by scooping both the Supporters' and Players' Player of the Year awards.

Setanta Sports: Fresh from winning Aston Villa's Players' and Supporters' Player of the Year awards, Stiliyan Petrov admits that such recognition is all the more welcome after he struggled to adapt to life in The Premier League during his first two seasons. Petrov followed his former Celtic manager Martin O'Neill south of the border in the summer of 2006 and initially failed to live up to the standards he had set for himself in The SPL. However, he has this year shone in the middle of the park alongside Gareth Barry and has been duly acknowledge by both his team-mates and the club's fans.

Mirror: Stiliyan Petrov has revealed his relief at finally winning over the Aston Villa boo-boys. The Bulgarian midfielder, 29, was branded a £6.5million flop after two average seasons, following his switch from Celtic in August 2006. He even lost his place last term and was jeered by some fans. But Petrov is close to finalising a new contract after impressing this season in a deeper holding midfield role. And the ace was thrilled this week at being named both supporters' player of the year and players' player of the year.

Birmingham Post:
Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate has demanded his players lift themselves from the pain of their latest agonising defeat if they are to avoid the ultimate hurt of relegation. Monday's 3-1 loss at Newcastle has left Southgate and Boro dangerously close to demotion to the Coca-Cola Championship with just two matches remaining to save their Barclays Premier League lives. With the club three points from safety and with a far inferior goal difference, it appears certain Boro will have to win both games, at home to Aston Villa on Saturday and at West Ham on the final day.

Guardian: The Aston Villa manager, Martin O'Neill, has been warned by the Football Association about his future conduct following comments he made at Old Trafford last month.

Sky Sports: Aston Villa full-back Luke Young has revealed how he has been playing through the pain barrier. The defender has been struggling with the foot injury that forced him to withdraw from the England squad in February. Young, though, appears determined to feature in Villa's final two games of the season as the club look to secure fifth position.
