Stiliyan Petrov thinks Nathan Delfouneso will hit the big time - because he is willing to listen and learn.

Petrov paid tribute to fellow award winner Delfouneso after seeing the 18-year-old flourish this season.

He told AVTV: "Nathan has done great. I love it when I see players like Nathan, with good ability, a tremendous heart, plenty of courage and a real desire to learn win awards.

"He has been there every day in training - working hard and listening to advice. And you can tell that he wants to succeed on the big stage that is the Barclays Premier League. I am really happy for him.

"We all expect him to flourish and become a really top drawer player - I am hoping that happens."

Delfouneso emerged victorious at the annual dinner - picking up Player and Supporters Young Player of the Year awards. And the young striker gave credit for his success to his team-mates who have supported him this season.

He said: "Since I've managed to break into the first team squad, the rest of the lads have been great.

"They have supported me and kept my feet on the ground. They have congratulated me when I have done well and encouraged me when I haven't been doing great. I have a lot to thank them for."
