AVTV Blog: Thanks Hanks
![]()
The claret and blue fanatic (ok fanatic may be stretching it) has been in the eternal city of Rome for the premiere of his new blockbuster 'Angels and Demons'. It's basically the sequel to smash hit 'Da Vinci Code' and promises to be a belter. Now without going into the usual - You've Got Mellberg, Big (John Carew), Sleepless in Aston and Zat Thing You Do - it's fair to say that Tom would be top of the pops when it comes to the Villa interview wish-list. AVTV managed to get some time with Michael Johnson earlier in the year but this Hollywood legend would probably trump even the sprint legend. If website editor Paul Brown had a choice of a celebrity blogger next season, it would have to be Hanks. The man revealed his support of Villa at the premiere of Charlie Wilson's War - wearing a Proud History, Bright Future scarf on the red carpet. OK, maybe he doesn't scream the Paul McGrath song, buy a quota of season tickets and down pints in the Holte Pub, but he's a fan to cherish. Apparently he's over in England next week to promote his new film and the media crew at Villa Park are hoping to get a word on camera with him. We'll keep you informed folks.
My Player of the Year vote would go to Stiliyan Petrov. Forwards often get the credit and for that reason Ashley and John will obviously be among the favourites. But, for me, the Bulgarian midfielder has been immense. He struggled a little in his opening campaign but now he's one of the first names on MON's team sheet. We're hoping to have a chat with him this week in the run-up to the Fulham game. Stiliyan is a really top guy - a model professional, a funny bloke and very popular with the other players. On our last AVTV special Q&A, Curtis Davies picked out 'Stan' as the first team star most likely to win Big Brother if the show was set in the Villa dressing room. My Young Player of the Year? Marc Albrighton - top guy, very down to earth, tremendous talent and a driving force in the reserves. Other players worthy of praise include Barry Bannan and Nathan Delfouneso. Make sure you have your say by voting here.
Confirmed today that Peter McParland will be in the press box with me, commentating on the Fulham clash. Great to get Peter back on the mic. He's a true legend and a real gentleman. He may be in his 70s but he still speaks a lot of sense about how the game is played. I saw him at the Hull clash in the week. He was delighted with the result - but he said he was nervy towards the end! But on the night John Higgins clinched the world snooker title it was great to chalk up a win and pocket maximum points.
Just to keep you informed about what we're up to this week on AVTV as we build towards our trip to Craven Cottage. We're doing a quirky Q&A with James Milner, a look ahead to the Fulham clash with Gabby Agbonlahor as well as our usual One to One with the gaffer. All tomorrow hopefully. We're obviously waiting for news on Martin Laursen as well. Hope to update you on a few things later in the week.
Today's Top 5 John Carew - the big fella just loves scoring goals - he's the man of the moment Always happy to hear from all you claret and blue fanatics, email me here to chat about this blog, my Top 5, Villa matters, www.avfc.co.uk and AVTV.
