Reserves: Villa 2-0 West Brom

By Dan Harrison

Villa sealed the Barclays Premier Reserve League South title thanks to goals from Marc Albrighton and James Collins.

Albrighton gave Kevin MacDonald's team the lead on 35 minutes with a curling left-foot effort after a motoring run from Nathan Delfouneso.

Three points and the league title were wrapped up in the first minute of stoppage time when Collins converted an Albrighton cross.

Villa will now host northern league champions Sunderland in the Reserve League play-off final on Thursday May 21.

FT - That's it! Villa claim the title. Well done to Kevin MacDonald and his team. They will now face the winners of the northern section in a play-off final here at Villa Park on Wednesday May 20.

90mins: GOAL - Game, set, match and championship! It's James Collins in the first minute of stoppage time, using his strength before converting a Marc Albrighton cross. Brilliant.

89mins: Delfouneso looks to hold on to it in the corner and wins a flag kick. Albrighton's kick is curled in but there's a foul on Kiely.

86mins: Lichaj pings another long throw in but Collins can't quite help it on.

85mins: Villa are happy to soak up the visitors' pressure and look for an opportunity to counter-attack. Not long to hold on now.

82mins: SUBSTITUTION - A second change for West Brom. Sam Mantom on for Joss Labadie.

78mins: Spurs are 3-0 down and minus a player against Chelsea. Hopefully Villa can see this out now!

77mins: BOOKING - Youssouf Mulumbu (foul).

76mins: SUBSTITUTION - Chris Wood is replaced by Kayleden Brown for West Brom.

72mins: Labadie fires at Parish for Albion while at the other end Delfouneso's shot is deflected wide by Hoefkens. Breathless stuff!

71mins: Hofbauer dances past two Albion defences again and threads through to Delfouneso, who moves to early and would have been offside if he'd continued his run.

67mins: A barrage of pressure from Villa ends with a stinging shot from Gary Gardner but Kiely is down quickly to hold it.

62mins: Hofbauer is brilliantly picked out by Albrighton. The Austrian bursts into the box but it's great defending by Hoefkens, who scoops it away and clears.

60mins: Kim swings in yet another free-kick. Elford-Alliyu gets a back header on it but it's nowhere near the target.

58mins: This time the ping-pong match is in the Baggies penalty area. It ends with Ciaran Clark smashing it over the top.

56mins: It's 2-0 to Chelsea in the other game so surely Villa can't be caught now.

55mins: The ball bobbles around in the Villa box but Matthew Roome is there to hack it  clear.

51mins: Villa are so unlucky not to make it 2-0. Delfouneso's surging run from the centre circle is halted by Paul Downing but Hogg floats towards Albrighton who volleys against the post.

48mins: Bednar thrashes one across goal - similar to Lichaj's in the first-half - although again it misses everyone.

47mins: West Brom start brightly but Kim's snap-shot is weak and rolls wide of the post.

46mins: The second period is underway. No changes for either side at the break.

HT - There's the whistle. So far, so good for Villa's second string.

45mins: As expected, just one minute of added time to be played.

44mins: Very cute from Bednar. He flicks it away from Baker in the left-hand corner and wins a free-kick. Kim sends it in, Hoefkens sends it back across goal and it's eventually  cleared for a throw-in.

42mins: Good defending from Villa. Kim curls a right-foot free kick in from 45 yards out but the hosts stand strong.

38mins: Lichaj menaces down the right, cuts inside and smashes a low cross-shot across goal but somehow it evades everyone.

35mins: GOAL - Villa are a step closer to the title. Delfouneso picks it up 40 yards from goal, motors into the area and cuts inside Ryan Donk before leaving it for Marc Albrighton, who curls a left-foot shot into the top corner.

33mins: Kim hits a long-range effort but it creeps wide of the post.

31mins: More good news for Villa. Chelsea are leading against Tottenham, which puts us in pole position.

30mins: So close for Albion. Elliott Parish saves from Hoefkens then Bednar puts the follow-up against the post from close-range. It spins over the goal-line before it's hacked clear. Phew!

29mins: Albrighton and Hogg combine again. Another late run from Hogg but this time he's offside.

26mins: BOOKING - Marc Albrighton (foul).

25mins: A great run from Jonathan Hogg to meet Albrighton's cross but he heads straight at Kiely.

24mins: The game has lost a little bit of its edge after a lively start. Hopefully it's about to pick up again!

21mins: Albrighton is fouled on the right a couple of yards from the edge of the area. Hofbauer looks to bend it in left-footed but it's far too high and wide.

20mins: Villa are retaining possession very well at the moment but the Baggies are well organised and Kevin MacDonald's men can't find a way through.

17mins: More Villa pressure results in another Albrighton effort straight at Kiely.

16mins: A lovely piece of play from Dominik Hofbauer down the left. He rides two tackles, jinks his way to the edge of the box and crosses for Albrighton. The winger pulls the trigger first time but it's wide. Great move though.

15mins: Kim Do-Heon is pulling the strings for West Brom at the moment and wins a corner. His delivery isn't so good though and Villa get it away.

13mins: No goals so far here and no goals in the Chelsea-Spurs clash either, so as it stands Villa are Reserve League South champions.

11mins: The visitors probe forward and Roman Bednar gets into the action. He receives it with his back to goal just inside the box, turns and shoots but Gary Gardner makes a vital block.

9mins: Forget the Delapidator! There's a couple of mighty throws from Eric Lichaj into the Albion box but they just about manage to clear.

7mins: Albrighton floats in the corner and Baker connects with a bullet header but it's just wide.

6mins: Great run from Nathan Delfouneso, who gathers inside his own half before sprinting down the left and winning a corner.

4mins: A very open start, then. Looks like it could be a cracker!

3mins: An early introduction for Marc Albrighton and as you'd expect, it's a lively one. He picks it up on the counter attack at the halfway line and has Dwayne Samuels back-tracking before cutting in and firing straight at Dean Kiely in the visitors' goal.

1mins: A lively start for Albion. Carl Hoefkens is free down the right and crosses but Nathan Baker deals with it by heading clear.

6:58pm: The players are out on the pitch. Remember, a win clinches the title for Villa, although if Tottenham slip up at Chelsea we will also retain our crown regardless of events here at Villa Park.

Villa: Parish, Lichaj, Baker, Hogg, Clark, Roome, Albrighton BOOKED, G Gardner, Collins, Delfouneso, Hofbauer. Substitutes: Mikaelsson, Bevan, Forrester, Blythe, Grocott.
