Reserves: Tottenham 2-1 VILLA

By Dan Harrison

The champagne remains on ice for Villa's reserve side after they suffered only their second defeat of the season against party poopers Tottenham.

Victory would have seen Kevin MacDonald's team clinch the FA Premier Reserve League South title for the second season in a row, but penalties either side of half-time meant they slipped up against the only side who can still catch them.

Villa looked good value for at least a point after bombarding the Spurs goal in the first-half.

Nathan Delfouneso had an effort ruled out for offside, but the visitors eventually took the lead on 38 minutes when Dominik Hofbauer slotted past Ben Alnwick to finish a move which started from Eric Lichaj's long throw-in.

But three minutes later Spurs were level, Ryan Mason smashing a penalty into the roof of the net after Nathan Baker had fouled Takura Mtandari.

Tottenham's winner, which arrived just before the hour mark, also came from the spot.

Matthew Roome brought down Gilberto and Villa's goalkeeper Elliott Parish saved Jacques Mahogma's original kick.

However, the referee ordered a retake and Mahogma struck his second attempt down the middle, meaning Villa must now wait to clinch the league championship.

FT - A good performance from Villa but they can't put their opportunities away and must wait to clinch the FA Premier Reserve League South title.

90 mins: Collins wins a corner in the fourth minute of time added on. The Villa goalkeeper Parish heads upfield with Roome the only man back for Villa. Shorey swings it in but it's headed clear.

90 mins: SUBSTITUTION - Mtandari is replaced by Sam Cox in Tottenham's final change.

89 mins: Delfouneso beats Byrne down the left flank and crosses towards Forrester but it's cut out by Caulker.

87 mins: Spurs are intent to pass the ball around and play out time. They know what a scalp this will be for them if they can hold on.

84 mins: SUBSTITUTION - Another Villa change. Bouma is replaced by William Grocott.

83 mins: BOOKING - Mason shown a yellow for a foul on Hogg.

82 mins: Another good opportunity. Delfouneso finds Hofbauer who fires straight at Alnwick.

81 mins: SUBSTITUTION - Kevin MacDonald shuffles his pack with Harry Forrester coming on for Andreas Weimann.

79 mins: Another probing run from Delfouneso but he's brilliantly stopped by Livermore. 11 minutes left for Villa to salvage something from the game.

77 mins: Free-kick to Spurs. Kasim shoots at goal but it is wide of Parish's post.

76 mins: BOOKING - Bouma fouls Mason after a dangerous Spurs counter-attack.

75 mins: First time left-foot drive from Delfouneso saved by Alnwick.

74 mins: A break in play as Lichaj receives treatment after a foul by Kasim. Lichaj is ok though.

72 mins: Livermore sends a drive wide of Parish's goal.

71mins: A Lichaj cross is met by Collins but it hits his shoulder and goes through to the keeper.

69 mins: Luckless Collins sees another one fly over the bar from Delfouneso's cutback.

68 mins: Collins gathers possession and spreads wide to Weimann but the cross is poor and Alnwick collects.

66 mins: Shorey tees up Collins again but Alnwick is equal to it once more.

62 mins: SUBSTITUTION - Kudos Oyenuga comes off for Spurs to be replaced by Nathan Byrne.

60 mins: To Villa's credit they are straight back on the front foot but a series of crosses are dealt with by the Spurs defence.

59 mins: GOAL - This time Maghoma slots it down the middle and Spurs have the lead. You have to feel for poor Elliott Parish who thought he had thwarted Maghoma.

58 mins: Parish saves Maghoma's spot kick only for the referee to order it be taken again!

58 mins: BOOKING - Matthew Roome (foul).

57 mins: Gilberto is brought down by Roome and it's another penalty to Spurs.

56 mins: Delfouneso runs at the defence yet again. This time he picks out Weimann, whose shot is saved comfortably by Alnwick.

55 mins: Villa begin to hit their stride in this second half. Delfouneso bursts down the left and cuts back to Hofbauer but the shot hits the right hand side netting.

54 mins: Lichaj motors forward from the back. He finds Delfouneso on the left of the area but he can't get it out of his feet to get a shot on goal.

51 mins: Another dangerous long throw from Lichaj. Livermore clears for Spurs but only as far as Weimann, who has a follow-up effort blocked. What a weapon Lichaj's throw-in has proved to be so far.

48 mins: Bouma in the thick of the action to cut out Kasim's cross. It goes out for a corner. Mason's set-piece is cleared.

47 mins: Spurs on the attack. Mason puts in a dangerous first time ball but it's cleared by Matthew Roome.

46 mins - SUBSTITUTION - Spurs make a change. Steven Caulker on for Ricardo Rocha.

HT - The two sides go in all square at the break. Spurs withstood Villa's pressure and after conceding, they managed to hit back quickly with an equaliser. But Villa still have a good chance of clinching the title tonight.

45 mins: Collins fouled just on the left hand side of the Spurs area. Shorey stands over it. He swings it towards Lichaj at the back post but Ricardo Rocha is there to head behind for a corner. Corner is cleared but Shorey has a second bite of the cherry. He finds Collins who shoots wide.

43 mins: A lovely piece of trickery from Delfouneso before he crosses into the path of Collins, but again the striker's effort is too high.

42 mins: BOOKING - Jacques Maghoma (foul).

41 mins: GOAL - Ryan Mason steps up for Spurs and smashes the penalty into the top corner of the net. No chance for Parish and Spurs are level.

40 mins: Baker slides in on Mtandari and the referee awards a penalty to Spurs.

38 mins: GOAL - Villa are a step closer to the title as Dominik Hofbauer puts them in the lead. It's the long throw of Lichaj that creates the goal. Delfouneso heads it down into the path of Hofbauer and the Austrian's left-foot shot is through the legs of Spurs keeper Alnwick.

36 mins: Shorey, from an advanced position, picks out Collins on the edge of the box but the striker's snap shot is way off target. The striker looks disappointed not to have tested the keeper.

34 mins: A useful weapon for Villa in the shape of Lichaj's long throw. It wins his team a corner. Shorey's delivery, though, is disappointing and Spurs clear.

31 mins: Spurs break from a corner. Intricate football from the hosts but Baker races back to steal the ball from Maghoma with a sliding tackle.

29 mins: Spurs look to battle back. Maghoma wins a corner off Lichaj. Yaser Kasim swings it into the box but Villa clear.

27 mins: Another good chance. This time Delfouneso links up with Shorey to tee up James Collins. Shorey plays the ball into his path but the Academy hotshot fires over.

24 mins: Even the defenders are getting forward! Nathan Baker makes a surging run from the back and slips in Delfouneso, who digs it out of his feet and fires into the back of the net only to be flagged offside.

23 mins: Yet another good save from Alnwick. He gets down to his right hand side after Delfouneso breaks into the box and shoots across goal.

21 mins: Relentless pressure from Villa. This time a cross comes in from Eric Lichaj and Delfouneso gets a touch on it but Alnwick saves.

20 mins: Delfouneso shows great touch and then tenacity to go past Calum Butcher. He looks to dink it over Alnwick but the 'keeper makes himself big to deny the Villa striker. Good save again.

19 mins: A nice move from Villa. Delfouneso brilliantly picks out Hofbauer on the left. The Austrian crosses but Alnwick claims.

18 mins: An eventful start at Brisbane Road. Both sides have their goalkeepers to thank for key saves.

15 mins: This time it's Alnwick who makes a crucial save. He's down to his left to save Jonathan Hogg's effort before saving Weimann's follow-up with his feet.

14 mins: Ryan Mason's corner sails over Parish and Shorey heads off the line. Hofbauer breaks at the other end for Villa after collecting from Delfouneso but his cross is cleared.

13 mins: Parish saves again. This time he denies Jacques Maghoma to force a corner.

10 mins: Villa break straight away at the other end with Nicky Shorey trying to find James Collins but the attack is thwarted.

9 mins: Elliott Parish to the rescue for the visitors. The goalkeeper is down quickly to his right hand side to save Kudos Oyenuga's effort from just inside the box.

7 mins: Wilfred Bouma has to be on his guard early on. The Dutchman is alert to head away a couple of searching Spurs balls.

5 mins: Another good break from Weimann on the right. He looks to find Dominik Hofbauer with a cross but the referee blows for a foul.

4 mins: Andreas Weimann makes a similar run down the right flank but is stopped in his tracks and Spurs win a throw-in.

1 min: A bright start for Nathan Delfouneso. He breaks down the right hand side and wins a corner. Ben Alnwick in the Spurs goal punches the corner clear.
