John Carew insists he has found his true football home - and he has the stats to support the sentiment.

Despite having been at Villa Park for less than two years, the widely-travelled striker has scored 21 league goals - more than he has managed at any of his other clubs.

His previous best was 20 for Valencia over the course of 84 games between 2000 and 2003.

He has achieved his Villa haul in just 54 games - an impressive ratio of a goal every two and a half games.

The towering hit-man said: "I'm very happy here. I'm proud to be part of the club because there's great ambition and I'm sure we have a great future.

"That's why I signed a new contract. I love the club. I love the fans and we have a great group of players.

"Football in this country suits me very well. It's a very quick game, which I really like. I think I've found the right football country.

"I would like to finish my career here. I'm not thinking of going anywhere else."

On the subject of his best goal ratio, Carew added: "I don't keep a note of the goals I score. I know some strikers do, but it's something I've never done.

"I don't set targets either. All that matters to me is to keep improving as a player - the rest should come automatically."
