Shorey's UEFA Chance

Nicky ShoreyNicky Shorey has been given the nod to make his Villa debut in Thursday's UEFA Cup clash with FH Hafnarfjordur.

But Luke Young and Carlos Cuéllar, if he completes his move from Rangers, will have to sit out the trip to Iceland after missing out on registration for the second qualifying round.

As we revealed last week, under UEFA rules clubs had to register players for the second qualifying round by midnight on August 4.

They are then allowed to add just one player to their squad after the deadline.

Shorey has been given the nod and Martin O'Neill told www.avfc.co.uk: "We have cover at right-back but we don't have anything at left-back. If we progress in the competition we can then register any other signings that we make between now and the deadline."

Stay tuned to www.avfc.co.uk for all the build up to Thursday's big match.
