QPR Hit For Six

Tony McAndrewVilla's kids stepped up preparations for the new season in emphatic style with a 6-1 friendly victory against QPR.

The Young Lions proved simply too hot to handle as goals from Andrias Stieber (2), Harry Forrester (2) and Andreas Weimann (2) completed a comfortable win in the first warm-up game of the summer.

Coach Tony McAndrew told www.avfc.co.uk: "We went into the game looking for a good run-out and really it was just an extension of the training we've done in the first couple of weeks back.

"But some of the football played was very good at times and I was delighted with the way we approached the game. I was looking for quality and hard work and I got both of them.

"Everyone needs game time at this time of the year and I was pleased to give all the first and second years a run out."

The Under-18s now face Doncaster (Aug 2) and Plymouth (Aug 9) before the season gets underway with a trip to Sheffield United on August 23.
