Hong Kong Soccer 7s: Villa set for Far East return in May
Villa's young guns are set to return to Hong Kong to compete in the annual HKFC Citibank Soccer Sevens.
The club have been confirmed to take place in the competition alongside fellow English sides Leicester, Newcastle, Stoke and West Ham, as well as Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.
New Zealand outfit Wellington Phoenix, who play in Australia's A-League, and Japanese club Kashima Antlers will also be involved in the main tournament, which takes place at Hong Kong Football Club from May 20 to May 22.
Villa have a rich history in the Soccer Sevens, having lifted the trophy in 2002, 2004, 2007, 2008 and 2010.
The likes of Jack Grealish, Marc Albrighton, Gary Cahill, Gabby Agbonlahor, Ciaran Clark and Craig Gardner have all have starred for Villa in past editions of the event.
"We are delighted to continue our long association with the Hong Kong Soccer Sevens tournament," said academy director Sean Kimberley.
"It remains an integral part of our football development process.
"Jack Grealish and Marc Albrighton are two academy graduates among many who have benefited from participating in the Sevens in recent times, and we are look forward to playing our part once again in this high quality event."
"Villa are a huge club, a very professionally run club, that have been a strong supporter of the Soccer Sevens for many years," said Soccer Sevens committee chairman Tony Bratsanos.
"They've won the tournament five times so they've been very successful here, and they've also brought with them a number of future stars.
"Gabby Agbonlahor, Craig Gardner, Gary Cahill, Ciaran Clark and more recently Jack Grealish have all appeared, so it's always exciting to have them here."
