Garde: You can't underestimate the power of dedication and passion
Rémi Garde insists that dedication and passion can help Villa beat high-flying Tottenham this weekend.
Garde believes that in tough times it's easy for professional footballers to forget the dreams and aspirations they had as kids to make it in the beautiful game.
He wants his claret and blue troops to reminisce on those early memories because appetite often trumps talent in winning games - with the claret and blues needing a run of victories to stay up in the Barclays Premier League.
We begin with a home match with second-placed Spurs on Sunday.
He said: "We are all professional. We are playing for a huge club with a huge history.
"We have a responsibility and we have to show how, despite the difficulties, we are living for our passion.
"When we were kids every one of us wanted to play these kind of games and manage these games.
"Sometimes it's difficult - but you have to keep alive this passion inside you.
"All of us when we were kids - 12, 13, 14 - we had dreams to wear a shirt, a professional shirt and to play in a stadium like Villa Park. Now we all have the opportunity to do this.
"Even though it's very difficult, even though we're in a painful situation that we have to cope with, you should never forget that this is a unique opportunity - a chance we have to play professional games.
"Playing professional football when you're young is a dream. These dreams give you passion, motivation and the strength to cope with the difficulty.
"You should never forget that as a player or as a manager.
"This weekend, when you look at the team-sheet before the match, you can expect that it's not a well-balanced game.
"Once again, though, in football we're always speaking about dedication and passion and sometimes when you put more passion, more dedication in than your opponent, you can close the gap.
"I'm not expecting anything else than my players doing that."
