Garde: We must cast off heavy feeling

Brown

RĂ©mi Garde admits the big Liverpool loss gave everyone of claret and blue persuasion a "heavy feeling on their backs" - and called for his players to put things right at Stoke this weekend.

Garde was upset with the loss, calling it a "huge accident with individual failures".

But he stressed the momentum that was gained in the previous six top-flight games prior to the Reds defeat, including victories over Palace and Norwich.

He insists that his players must keep in mind the Liverpool loss - what happened and what went wrong - but also evoke the spirit they showed before.

He said: "It would have been better for us to play straight away after this heavy defeat to Liverpool. But then the fixture was not there.

"We had to carry on with that heavy feeling on our backs. We try to cope with that. We are really focused on the next game now.

"If you look at the last six Premier League games we played, I think we can almost speak about momentum. We won two. We drew two. It was a good spell of games.

"For me Liverpool was a huge accident with individual failures that gave us this bad result.

"But I don't want everybody - especially the players - to forget what we did previously before that game.

"We have to try to keep that in mind and put it again on the field.

"We have to forget the Liverpool defeat in that we cannot change the result but we don't have to forget why we lost. It's a balance between those two ways.

"I would prefer now to remember why and how we put the victories on the board."

Garde is eyeing up three points at Stoke City but is under no illusions about the difficult task that faces his team at the Britannia Stadium.

He added: "I am not sure there is a nice place to go in the Premier League to gain points.

"Stoke is a very strong side. They have talented players, especially up front.

"We know it will be difficult. Of course we will have to defend much better than we did against Liverpool.

"Stoke had such a good run previously and then suffered a few defeats to good teams.

"But I know it's a very tough place to go. We know it's a very tough game but we have to be prepared for that."
