Garde: My players still believe
Rémi Garde insists that his players still believe as the survival fight continues this weekend against Norwich.
Villa face the Canaries on Saturday, with a 3pm kick-off.
Garde appreciates how tough the task will be but stresses that he - and the team - have confidence for the battle ahead.
He said: "The players still believe, for sure.
"If they didn't believe it was still possible, they couldn't play like they did at West Ham and the last few matches.
"Of course, everyone is suffering and very worried about the situation.
"But the collective mood here is that we are still fighting because we won't give up.
"To be fair, I am the one who will be the last to give up."
Villa lost at Upton Park in the previous game but Garde insists confidence is still strong heading into this weekend.
He also knows the importance of the encounter, with the Canaries also in a battle for top-flight safety.
He added: "I am not sure that confidence has been too damaged in the defeat at West Ham.
"It was the way we lost - it was special circumstances.
"If I speak about the first 20 minutes, it was the same level as the previous games.
"We know that probably 11 v 11 we could have challenged more. I don't think the belief is lower than it used to be. We all still have confidence.
"As long as it's not too late, we will rely on this spell of games that could allow us to close the gap to the good zone in the table.
"Winning this Norwich game would be a big boost.
"For us, they are 10 points ahead of us. We could close the gap a little and put pressure on them.
"I am focused on scoring goals and winning matches.
"I have respect for them. I remember well the first game we played against them. It's up to us to do what we have to do to win that crucial game for us.
"We could come back to seven points behind them and that would be a big boost for us."
