Villa Noise: Sammer exclusive and Delph shows brainy side

Great to interview German legend Matthias Sammer this week.

Amiable Sammer is the sporting director of Bayern Munich but made his name in the football world at Borussia Dortmund.

He won the Bundesliga and Super Cup in 1995, the Bundesliga, Super Cup and European Footballer of the Year award in 1996 and the Champions League as well as the Intercontinental Cup in 1997.

At international level, he earned 74 caps and was in the side that won Euro 96 in England.

With Borussia Dortmund as a manager, Sammer won the Bundesliga in 2002.

I spoke to Matthias - as he watched Munich beat Arsenal - to get his memories of playing alongside Paul Lambert.

You'll be able to read my blog with Sammer on the official website in the next few weeks.

Delighted to hear that huge Villa fan Addo Slack [pictured right] - guitarist with rock band 'The Struts' - will be playing a major festival this year.

The Struts, who made big waves with their debut single 'Should Have Been Me', will perform at the Isle of Wight festival from June 12-15.

They will play the 'Big Top' stage on the Saturday evening.

Other performers in that area over the week include Travis, Katie B, Inspiral Carpets while headline acts include Kings of Leon, Suede, Calvin Harris, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and 1975.

Addo contributed to 'My Favourite Villan' in the matchday programme some weeks ago and revealed John Carew as his all-time hero.

He added that Carew would make a brilliant guest drummer.

With Carew's current movements in celebrity circles - meeting actor Leonardo Di Caprio and model Cara Delevigne - we wouldn't be surprised to see him joining The Struts on stage this summer!

Well done to the matchday programme for winning an illustrious award.

The Villa News & Record has been handed the gong of 'Most Improved Programme' by the Independent View, the magazine of the NPC - Northern Programme Club.

Villa were praised for the quality of the publication and also took home the prize of 'Best Feature' for Villa Vault - a comprehensive look-back at previous years of the claret and blues in the Premier League era.

Programme Editor Rob Bishop said: "We here in the marketing and communications team are delighted to be recognised.

"There is a lot of hard work that goes into every issue so to receive two awards is really fantastic news."

Pick up the matchday programme for £3 on Sunday against Norwich where you can read an exclusive interview with midfielder Ashley Westwood.

Fabian Delph shocked AVTV with his comprehensive knowledge of Villa this week.

Delph was in the hotseat for an exclusive interview about claret and blue matters with the club's in-house television channel on Wednesday.

But, unbeknown to him, AVTV were also planning for him to take part in the first 'Villa Quiz' for a feature series which will be screened over the summer.

As Delph walked across the corridor before his interview session with Jack Woodward and cameraman Craig Martin he bumped into programme editor Rob Bishop.

Bishop - who co-wrote 'Aston Villa: The Complete Record' - knew all about the Villa Quiz and didn't hesitate to tip off the midfielder about it.

As Delph burst through the doors, he shouted out: "Listen, we've won the League Championship seven times, the FA Cup seven times and the League Cup five times, there's nothing I don't know."

Cue laughter all around.

Check out how he - and other claret and blue stars - get on in the coming months.

Make sure you subscribe now to AVTV.

Villa's customer service has been given a huge thumbs-up from supporters- and that's official.

The key claret and blue positives coming out of the National Premier League Fans Survey 2013-14 this week is the diligent work of our business staff behind-the-scenes.

They have finished No.1 in a host of categories while the facilities on offer on matchday has also been highlighted.

Look out for more of this story as it develops later this week.

Marc Albrighton is a big favourite with Villa fans in China.

Albrighton is popular due to his involvement in the Hong Kong Soccer Sevens as a young lion and the Hong Kong Asia Trophy too as a senior lion.

So it was an easy decision for Chinese social media executive Rongtian He when he had to pick the new competition prize for Sina Weibo, one of our social media channels in the Far East.

Rongtian got Albrighton printed on the back of a new claret and blue home shirt and the top will now be offered to supporters in the next few weeks.

Albrighton this week signed the shirt and had his photo taken with it at Bodymoor Heath.

Nice one Marc.

Fans on Twitter are proving very arty.

We had these two great images - of Brad Guzan and Christian Benteke - tweeted to us by supporters this week.

See below the efforts of the interestingly-named 'Post it Players' and 'Love your Brain'.
